Well thank you highseas. Glad to be here and it is good to hear for someone from the sunshine state. I have so much to learn but it seems I have found the right place to do it.

Welcome to OB

Replying to multiple people in one post is kind of "advanced"; some forum software supports this, but OrchidBoard seems to be of the opinion that you only want to ever do this to one post at a time. So you have three options:

1) reply to each one in turn with quote buttons (click quote, reply, submit; rinse, repeat); OrchidBoard will put all your replies into one post unless someone else also posts in between yours
2) just mention each person by name - people will often look for your replies and see if you've responded to them
3) learn how to format the Quote tags. All you need to know is the number of the post you're replying to and the post number, which are displayed in the post.

So if you want to reply to several people, note their names and then hover over the little hyperlinked post number (which counts up from 1 in each "thread") - that will display the post number in your browser's window (at least it does in Firefox); make a note of that number. So say you're trying to reply to someone called JoeBloggs on post number 57000, you would put:

HTML Code:
[QUOTE=JoeBloggs;57000]Interesting thing they said (copy and paste)[/QUOTE]
And then Type your reply.
You can do this for several people.

This would then display:

You CAN do multiple quotes in Orchid Board. The method 3 Discus suggests works but is fiddly, there is an easier way.

Next to the 'Quote' button there is button that looks like two pieces of paper. Click that on each of the posts you want to quote, it will turn green when you click it, you can click it again to stop that post being included if you clicked the wrong one by mistake.

When you have selected all of them in this way click the quote button on the last one. It will then add the multiple quotes to your message

---------- Post added at 12:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:59 AM ----------

I actually use the method of understanding how to format the quote tags to break one quote into multiple quotes, but that probably is an advanced usage.

By the way, these tags are BBCode tags not HTML (I made that mistake originally). The only reason it's important to know that, is that some image hosting sites provide either HTML links to share the image or BBCode links, and it's the BBCode ones you want.

I know the tags are BBCODE, but I wanted to get the forum to display the tags rather than interpreting them; when I used the generic CODE tag, it... interpreted them, which was annoying, so I had to use the HTML BBCODE tag to display them...

Thanks for the tip on the two little pages.

Yeah, I've struggled with getting the code to show before. Good thinking on how to do it.
