First time phalaenopsis owner!
Default First time phalaenopsis owner!

Hi all,
I am a very new owner of a phalaenopsis orchid plant. I received this plant 4 days ago. I have studied quite a but on the care of these particular orchids. According to the instructions. I have learned about proper lighting, proper watering, proper planting, over and under watering. Also, looking at the roots for rot and the type of planting bark to use...
So far, everything is perfect, it sits in a clear container and ceramic vase, with the roots on bark. The roots look green and healthy. I watered and drained all of the water. It is facing a north east window.
Within 4 days, 2 of the owners are turning yellow, a few of the nodes, or flower buds are looking like prunes, and ready to call off. The leaves still look gorgeous.
I guess I need some suggestions on getting the other flowers to open.
I will add a picture.
Thanks!!

Welcome to Orchid Board

Looking good, great that you've read up so you can avoid the most common errors.

The buds should just open. Sometimes though they can drop without opening because of the change in environment from the shop/nursery to your home. Unfortunately there isn't really anything you can do about that, so let's just hope they open for you.

They can open over time, so don't worry if they seem slow. As long as the buds stay plump they should be fine.

Rosie said pretty much what I would have. Tho, another thought is drafts on the buds and blooms can cause them to drop prematurely. Excessive heat or cold as well ...

Good luck!

Hi SlipperGirl,
I finally figured out how to add pictures. I have added a total of 3. The first is 1 day after i got the Phal. The 2nd and 3rd pics are so you can see the little spikes on the stems, (taKen 10 days after) and also a bud that looks like it might bloom.

Those spikes are just where the blooms were. It will look like that whenever it drops flowers

The last picture has a new flower. I'm so excited, because all of the rest of the buds died! So that is my miracle flower😄
