As a fellow rescuer my first orchid was a gift and the second a rescue. Having had lots of plants for most of my life I didn't do much research and honestly was lucky not to kill it. Then I realized my first orchid had not set another spike in the 2 years I'd had it so I started buying books. I wish I'd found this forum sooner! For me the books lead to trial and error as far as what works for me, and my first orchid didn't make it. I'm happy to report that my rescue is now thriving and has set a flower spike after surviving my mistakes (and spider mites) it only took 3 years
but its so worth it! I defiantly have caught the orchid bug and I'm glad to have it, such rewarding plants. The thread mention in a previous post was very helpful and I find that looking at all my orchids every few days helps notice changes and catch possible problems early.
Happy growing
