Hello! Here is where I stand as a newbie.

I am a newbie in the orchid care world. i have a great appreciation for orchids, Phals are all I have owned... I have two now, and they are not blooming... One I have had for 2 years, and no new anything! My second phal is just as odd... for about a year now it has been growing what appears to be another orchid at the top of one of the flower spikes! I have almost no terminology basis, so dumbing it down to start will help greatly if you are inclined to help me with any questions. I will refrain from coments, because I really am not speaking from sound knowledge... Also a Colorado resident, not sure if that makes much of a difference...

Welcome to OB, as I said in your other post I think what is growing on your orchid is a keiki

Yes, sounds like you have a keiki which is just a baby orchid growing on the spike. Usually the advice is to leave it until there are 3" of root (either lots of roots that add up to 3" or one that is 3" long). Then you can cut the spike either side and pot it up.
