Orchid idiot here to learn
Hello all!
I am quite limited on orchid knowledge, which I'm learning, is all too common because of marketers setting consumers up to need to purchase replacements.
The instructions of adding an ice cube method to water just didn't seem to make sense in my mind, so I did some research and have managed to keep 2 gift orchids alive for over a year. I could certainly improve on the method I use because its not exactly a user friendly method (messy and time consuming).
I've joined here for a couple reasons.
First off, because I know that forums can be wonderful sources of knowledge and support. I want to improve how to take care of orchids so I can purchase an orchid that I like. Not to say the orchids I have I don't care for, but they are liked for the sentimental connection I acquired them by. I'm not a fan of purple and they are both white with purple markings.
The second reason is I have a question about one of my orchids, which I will ask in a different board of the forum.
I look forward to meeting some of you and seeing what neat stuff there is to learn.

Welcome Aboard!!!!
You cant be an 'idiot'....
anyone who can grow orchids and make it bloom is above average than most people.
It takes reading, research and intelligent following of instructions.
Average intelligence people find it hard to follow instructions correctly. They get it right on the third or fourth try.

Well, thank-you, but blooming happened with no help from me. I just took into consideration where they grow and how they attain moisture and did what I thought might work. Its all been basically winging it. That, and from what I have read, Phalaenopsis are somewhat easy, as orchids go.

Your instincts are right about orchids and ice.
Orchid aerial roots will not tolerate ice and the amount it takes to melt. Morning dew is a process of condensation in the atmosphere but it is not similar to melting ice....watering and spraying is still the best way for any plants
