Hi. I am new to the Orchid Board.
Hi. I was first introduced to orchids about 4 years ago. A co worker had a couple and when I saw them bloom, I was really interested. Over the course of about 6 months I bought 4 Phal orchids. I kept them on a window sill at work with a SE exposure and poured about a 1/4 to 1/2 cup water on them a couple times a week. I had such good success I began to believe I knew everything about orchids that could be learned. They seemed to be in bloom more than not. When I retired I gave these plants to a couple work friends that had an interest in them. Last I heard, they are still doing great. After I retired I bought 4 more Phals. Three of the four started dying just about the time the last bloom opened. (all 3 were bought from the same store.) I realize that I have much to learn. The fourth seems to be fine so far. I aso bought a red Cattleya which seems fine. While researching possible causes of the three orchids dying, I read about miniature orchids. I never knew there was such a thing. Miniatures are truely facinating for me. I just purchased a Laelia Liliputana, a Pleurothallis endotrachys, and a Pleurothallis Rowleei Dark. I have what appears to be flower spikes on the first two. Just have to wait and see. Once I learn more I will look into getting more. Thank you for allowing me to join this Board.
