Another newbie joins the fray
Hi! I've been lurking around this site for a while now, and I finally decided to join. I've been growing orchids for about 7 years now, but my collection is pretty small - 5 cattleyas, 6 phals, 3 paphs, and a Psychopsis Mendenhall "Hildos."
It's the psychopsis that prompted my joining today; after 4 years I finally figured out what conditions it likes and it put up a bloom spike. It was about 8 inches long when - you guessed it - I broke it off while watering today. I always tried to be soooo careful! Needless to say, I'm rather devastated. I've heard that they will sometimes branch off after being broken; maybe I'll get lucky?
Anyway, it's nice to be here. I've gotten a lot of helpful info from this site, I hope I'll be able to contribute sometime!

Welcome, and welcome to the fray. Yes we occassionally break off spikes (not that it's ever happened to me ) Hate it when that happens

Welcome to the Orchid Board. There have been a lot of "Orchid Accidents", so many that we all started a thread on it to vent. Consider yourself one of us now.

Welcome aboard. Gotta love your handle, since I almost did just that when mine broke TWO spikes off one of my orchids this spring! One did grow back, so hang in there.
