Hello from New Hampshire!
Hey everyone!
I just joined these forums after stalking them over the last week or so looking for some insight into my new hobby. My boyfriend bought me my first orchid as a birthday present a couple months back despite my reservations at being able to care for it... but now I have a new obsession, it seems. So here I am, four orchids later, trying to overcome my notoriously black thumb. I need all the help I can get
Anyway, I look forward to meeting all of you, and learning more about these beautiful and fascinating plants.

Hello and welcome! I give phals as gifts and two self-described black-thumbs have done very well with their phals...it has been years since I gave them the orchids. I think you will be fine.

Thank you so much everyone!
The thing is, I almost killed my poor birthday phal through my own ignorance... he (whom I've affectionately nicknamed 'George') lost all his flowers, two and a half leaves, and probably most of his roots. Fortunately I did my research and he is now recovering beautifully.
So if I've learned anything it's that orchids aren't so much difficult as different. Lucky for me they're stubborn as well

if it's recovering, you're doing better than I did with my first orchid, LOL! but the important thing is that we learn from our mistakes and do better (and then the addiction really begins!)
welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the Board - I don't know where you live in NH; however, New Hampshire Orchid Society meets the 2nd Saturday of each month from 1-3 pm in the Bedford, NH Town Hall. To would be a way to see and to learn about orchids from other growers.
