you can also put some of your plants outdoors in the warmer months

What are the ones that can go outside? I was told the phals don't care to be outside.

I used to put all of them outside when I was in Ontario. I imagine that if you get a lot of rain or dew that phals could get crown rot. Mine did fine on shelves on fences. There they had dappled shade and breezes. Just be sure to spray them before you bring them in.

Ok thanks for the info. I live on a lake,so there is some humidity here. I always put my cymbidiums out. So it wont hurt to put my catt.oncid and dens outside

They should be fine. I used to have a collection of 75 orchids, most of them spent the summer outside. Of coarse you do have to check often for signs of slugs, etc. By having mine in the fences, they were high enough that the slugs or snails were never a problem. The squirrels were surprisingly polite and only knocked over the odd one. They ran along the back of the fence all of the time.
