Well after accidentally killing far too many plants over the years I finally decided to join a forum...I have other hobbies and have found the best info is always in communities like this so I hope you'll help me learn all I can and turn my house into an orchid jungle, eventually!

Right now I have a currently ailing phal of some kind, a catteleya, a completely unknown orchid, and a teeeeny little R. gigantea. It's seriously got a leafspan of about 2". Not my only houseplants though, I have a few of those super tough ones like philodendron and snake plants

Welcome to orchid board. It's actually not that tough, it gets a little tougher when you go deeper scientifically but usually you don't have to. I've known people who had orchids for years without fertilizing and always been strong bloomers/growers.
