Just joined the other day. I've been growing orchids for a couple of years now, but since I am in a new house with an actual backyard, my collection has expanded. Most of them are courtesy of my mother-in-law, who for whatever reason buys orchids to decorate her house and then doesn't want them anymore when the blooms are all gone. Oh well, the arrangement works out for me!
I have a bunch of philanopsis, as well as several dendrobiums/hybrids, three cattleyas, and a large oncidium.
I was just able to pick up a very nice Potinara Cattleya over the weekend at a farmer's market from a pretty well-stocked orchid grower, along with a Blc./encyclia cross. I will post those in the Cattleya forums later in the week when I have the time.
I'm still learning and experimenting with growing, but so far things are working out. It helps that we generally get perfect weather here for orchids.
At some point I plan to try my hand cultivating a Vanda orchid, which is a bit different than the species I'm used to.
