Default Hi. How it all began.

I actually joined Orchidboard back in 2009 but have never posted anything before. I love orchids, but my other passion is breeding and showing poodles, which actually is what got me started in orchids back in the late 80's. A friend wanted to show her new poodle puppy and asked me to teach her how to groom it for show. I was happy to do it but refused to take any money. Her son grew orchids, so after 2 or 3 grooming sessions, she brought me a phalaenopsis in spike and said "I know you won't take any money, but YOU WILL TAKE THIS ORCHID!" I tell everyone it turned out to be the most expensive orchid I've ever owned, because everyone knows you can't just have one! Or two, or ten, etc. etc. Before long, there were two light stands filled with several varieties of beautiful orchids. Anyway, that's how it all began, all because of a little poodle puppy!

I like toy size black poodle, but unlike their cute appearance, I find them quite "spicy" in their personality.

Mini poodle with gentle nature would be so nice!

Nice story, by the way!

Welcome! I like the idea of showing dogs but it's too much like hard work for me, let alone with something like a poodle that requires so much grooming!! I just visit shows and have my own two purebreds, a Basset Hound and an Australian Kelpie. that said my next dog will be non-shedding so I will eventually have to groom one(Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is the next breed I think)

Hi SusieQ, I too used to show and groom dogs. Showed Westies and Shih Tzu. I was at a Craft Show in 2004 when I had recently moved to Florida and spotted Pink flowers waving at me across the Gym. They were Phals and Dens. Such pretty colors I had to buy one of each. When they bloomed for me the following year I started picking up one here and there. There is no cure for Orchiditis. Just the joy in seeing them bloom again and again. My original 2 are still here somewhere mixed in my collection of over 300. Glad you finally posted.

Hello and welcome SusieQ!

Those darn dogs - always interseting to hear how we came into orchids.

Hopefully since 2009 you have had a chance to see all the wonderful feature we have here at the OB.

Enjoy!
