Welcome to the Orchid board. If you post your question in the general forums you will be more likely to get an answer. I for one don't know the answer, just wanted to welcome you.

Hi Min

Welcome to Orchidboard

If you open the forums page, you'll see listings for all the different forums we have. Choose the forum your question would fit into and as you've done here, click on New Thread...and start typing

To answer your question: Phaius tankervilleae is a terrestrial so it does better in a terrestrial mix which is more like a soil compound rather than large chunks of mix. As for growing conditions, they like to be moist but not soggy and although they do well in various lighting, mine seems to do best in shade.

Do you have any other orchids? We'd love to hear more about them

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I too have a recently aquired Phaius Tankervillae. I have potted mine in a peat based mix, and it is on my kitchen window ledge. Where abouts in the UK are you ? I am in Lincolnshire.

Hi Puffy willow.

I have just repotted mine in a mixture of bark and leafmould. Now it is a case of fingers crossed. It appears very healthy and is sitting in my conservatory (heated) on the windowsill. Do you have many other orchids? I am, by the way, not far from you. I am in Norfolk - just south of Norwich. Whereabouts in Lincolnshire are you? Do you belong to Fenland or one of the other orchid societies in Lincolnshire?

I am between Boston and Spalding, and I have 19 Orchids now. This has grown steadily over 4 years, and I'm trying to make room for more arriving after Christmas. I don't as yet belong to any Orchid Societies as I don't drive and find it difficult to get to meetings.

It is a shame that you are unable to get out to meetings as there is always a group of friendly orchid enthusiasts at Orchid Society Meetings. I belong to the Orchid Society of East Anglia and have learned a tremendous amount from the members there - you are never left to feel inadequate as someone always will help.
I have around 100 0rchids of varying type and I love experimenting with things like deflasking and growing from Keikis.
