Welcome Desert Orchid;
I hope you find the Orchid Board a friendly place to meet others who like to talk orchids. You are going to find people here who will be glad to answer any question you can post - or tell you they can't - but they'll be supportive while doing it.
As far as your induction into your current orchid addiction, your story is as old as gardening itself! You will find it repeated over and over here - usually to the detriment of many a checking account.
It always starts with just one doesn't it? There are sooo many infection routes, it's almost impossible to avoid the pathogen entirely. I was actually addicted through a picture in a magazine when I was a teenager; and now they are putting them in every store, so you really can't blame anyone except the orchid growers.
Don't look for treatment or a cure, the most you can really do is calm the constant cravings. At first that will require regular infusions of orchids. In time, you will learn to pace yourself, but be careful at first - the disease can induce massive hemorrhaging in banking accounts. If you find yourself overwhelmed, just get online and you will find support here at the Board - we will totally agree with your purchases, no matter what! The up-side effects are a feeling of accomplishment when ANYTHING positive happens (new root, new flower spike, new buds, etc....) - and when one blooms entirely under your care - there are few things quite like it!
Again, welcome, and have a great New Year!
Steve
