Welcome to the Orchid Board:
And as I have said before, with 23,000 different orchid species, we are all 'newbies' to some varieties!
It sound like you have already contracted the orchid virus; you need to know there is no cure. You will be dominated by the urge to add "just one more" or purchase those 'just because I'm special" gifts of phalaenopsis, paphiopedilum, dendrobiums, etc. You will rationalize the purchases as cheaper than cut flowers, or you need a little long lasting color in the house, or even you just needed to break a hundred.
Forget about vacations, large amounts of liquid cash or children's college funds -- you and all you have are now owned by orchids. Start looking for where you will place the inevitable stack of growing shelves and how you will mount the florescent bulbs. May as well prepare ahead.
And be prepared to love every minute of it.
With orchids, you are rewarded greatly for your efforts!
Hope you enjoy growing and working with them as much as I do - otherwise you're in trouble!
