Ok...my passion for orchids took off this year and my collection has grown dramatically...I recently got a Catasetum Orchidglade and it produced male flowers. My question is - how long do the flowers stay open? These have only been open for a little over a week and are starting to wilt. I was just wanting to make sure I was caring for it they way it needed.
Also, how do I care for this plant? Light, humidity, fertilizer and water...
Welcome to the Orchid Board. Glad you could join. I am no expert on this genus, but I was under the impression that these do not last long like Phals do. In anycase a more experienced member will be sure to chime in.

I don't grow these orchids but I did find a Catasetum care sheet this site provides - http://www.orchidboard.com/node/105
If you go to the Search option on the forum menu taskbar up at the top of this screen - click on it and type in catasetum. It will bring you to old threads' postings and those that have questioned them also.
I hope this helps
Male flowers of Catasetum pileatum, Catasetum expansum and their hybrids last 5 to 10 days, depending on the temperature. Once they shoot their pollinia, they perish. But they can produce 2 or 3 spikes.
