New from southern Arizona
Hi Orchidboarders,
Got my first Orchid about 35 years ago. For a long, long time never had more than 20-25 (found them easy to "grow", but hard to BLOOM). Took me until about 10 years ago to figure out how to get regular blooms. Built a very small greenhouse (6 1/2 ft x 21 ft x 9 ft high) 5 years ago, then started buying more orchids (maybe 250-300 plants now). Concentrate on small-mini types for new aquisitions, but have a few large Catts (40-50+ blooms . . . I'll post some pictures soon), and everything (well, not EVERYTHING) in between. MANY different genera, quite a variety, but all warm to intermediate growers. I like terrestrials and have 30-40 varieties, mostly "foliage" types.
I'm a member of the Southern Arizona Orchid Society (in Tucson). Lately, I have not been a very good "participant", but it is a great organization and I recommend it highly!
Hopefully I can both learn and contribute on this forum.

No Cyp's (tooo difficult here), but a few Paphs and Phrags. I'll try an upload of one for you . . . let's see if it works.
Thanks for the welcome.

I lived in Tucson for a while and found that I had to alter my growing practices from the conditions I was used to in PA! SO DRY!!!! The constant sunshine is great though (with some filtration of course!), and Trader Joe's did a great job of supplying me with a nice collection! I also worked at Bach's Cactus Nursery, what a great hortocultural place in the desert!!! I MISS TUCSON!!!

Yes, the issue IS keeping things COOL, not keeping them warm. My greenhouse is all concrete block, no side openings, and three skylights (insulating glass) in the roof. Still needs shade cloth during the summer, and AC to keep the daytime temps down in the mid-high 80's.
Bach's is a great place. I've been there often, purchased cactus, and gotten good growing advice for cacti.
