Hello from florida
Default Hello from florida

Hello everyone! I have begun my orchid adventures.

I was walking around a flea market and saw a gentleman selling various orchids. One was going out of bloom so he sold it to me for $2! The other two i loved had two full blooms and about three future blooms. All the leaves looked very green and healthy. I saw alot of green healthy roots all over in the little plastic pot it was in.

All three were growing in 100% sphagnum moss but about half of the moss looked like it had green stuff growing all in it and it was really packed in. I did some reading and decided to re-pot them in fresh moss but i also added a handful of orchid bark then moderately packed it around/ in between the roots. I also pre soaked the new mos in some superthrive.

All three are Phal. orchids.

I hope i am off to a good start!

Really great to meet everyone.

Welcome! Glad you found us.
Looks like you are on a good track. Keep an eye on that moss - it is so easy to overwater. Be prepared to make adjustments if it doesn't work out with your particular environment. Good luck!

Your growing zone is 9b. We share the same zone and you live about 60 miles west of me. We're practically neighbors.
