Hello to one and all
My name is Kelly and I only have one orchid at the moment, however it is a very special one and I have a funny feeling the beginning of a lifelong hobby.
Both my grandparents passed away at different times last year, and after the wake of my grandmother we visited their house while we still could. Their garden was always a wonderful place to be, immaculate, loved and well tended. As an adult gardening was something we had in common and shared. But the pride and joy of their garden was the shade house filled with dozens of orchids. Both myself and my sister took one of them each with us. When I finally got it home I had - and still have no idea what to do with it! So have done nothing other than place it outside under our pergola area where it faces north and gets some direct sunlight and is protected from harsh weather, both hot and cold. Well I've have it up here in Sydney since October last year and now it has a flower spike. Guess that's why I'm here. I would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to it I know I can't just let it fend for itself!
Sorry for the long windedness of this. Just figured I'd explain the reasons behind it being so special and why it's important to keep it going. It's my link to my grandparents
It's a cascading cymbidium, the name on the tag says Sarah Jean "Jennifer"
Looking forward to getting to know some of you and learning about orchids, as I said previously, I think this is the beginning of something bigger than one plant sitting outside on a step!
Cheers,
Kelly
