Default brown looking roots

I had to repot one of my phylanopsis and I notice that the roots are not bright green as some of my others - I water once a week and are potted in large orchid wood chips

Roots can look brown and still be good so long as they are firm. Roots can also be whitish.

I agree, if they are firm then don't worry about the colour.

Is the medium drying out completely (even in the middle) before you water each time?
