Hi all. Excellent to find this site. I've long watched orchids from afar, but my fear of murdering them from overcare kept me from taking the leap to buying some. A rather foolish decision, as I was in Hawaii for five years, but moved back to MA three years ago. After visiting the Floriade and Keukenhof in Holland during May 2012, I simply couldn't take it anymore and had to buy some. Hopefully the wealth of information and experience on this site will prevent the death of my innocent plants.
In time I'll doubtless want to get into the more extreme aspects of the hobby (wild orchid photography trips, propagation from seedpods), but for now I'll be happy if I can keep them alive through this coming winter, and get some decent flower spikes. I just repotted my first plant three days ago and it's not dead yet!

Thanks. Know of any good orchid shows or knowledge bases in central MA? I plan on going to the tower hill botanic garden orchid show at some point, and picked up some of my new babies at the Lyman Arboretum.

I was born and raised in Boston near the commons....but it was in Manhattan that I got my first orchid.
