Hi! My name is Mary Linn! :)
Hi, my name is Mary Linn, (Linn is my middle name, but I don't like going by Mary) I live in Salisbury North Carolina, I have had orchids for a few years now, gotten some to bloom once or twice, & one to faithfully bloom every year, even tho I never repotted it till a month ago...
I joined after following a few posts here and there for a couple yrs, and I have found some fabulous information on here as well as links to more info! so thank y'all sooo much for that!
I am excited to have finally joined! (I put it off b/c I am the least computer- savvy person ever! Think I've fig. some stuff out tho?)
I am soo happy to have so many helpful experts @ my finger tips that can hopefully b able to answer questions for me?! I haven't uploaded any pics yet, but they will come I will take some pics tom. of all my babies that I have with me this summer... But I will stop boring u & talk to y'all soon Thank You!
P.S. if I think two of my orchids might b infested with fungus or mites or something, & I need help identifying, plus fig out what to do to get rid of it, do I start a new thread? (& put pics on that) or add on to someone else's or what? Thank You!!

WELCOME AND HELLO!!!!
You've come to the right place.
For fungus infestation, I use the brown listerine or hydrogen peroxide....if its really that bad I bring out the big guns(physan20, captan or phyton)
For bugs and mites:
10 drops dish soap
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon extract
2 cups tepid water
mix them all in a spray bottle add a cinnamon stick and spray the whole plant...make some more to soak the pot for five min to kill the eggs on the media
(repeat the following week)
then rest for two weeks and then repeat again for two weeks intervals
this mix is very safe for mammals/pets/humans ...even kills flies and cockroaches upon contact

Thanks! I have done the physan, & also the soap, and cinnamon mix both sprayed the leaves for the last 3 wks... I guess the scarring on the leaves will stay even after fungus & mites r gone?
The scars r on undersides on the tip of one plant, & on the other- a grocery store plant-which is separate from all others- has scarring on both sides, but I think it had damage b4 i got it & I just failed to notice (in the crowded grocery store) but I have cut off the damaged areas...
And tomorrow I will post some pics, can't do it now on my iPad- no pics on it! But maybe u could tell me what you think?
Thank You soo much for your help!!

Welcome to the Board!
If you want more help start a new thread in the Pest and Disease forum. You will get more people to see your questions. Make a thread and post pics of the plants that you are concerned about. Close up pics too. Then we can help you identify what is going on. The scarring won't go away but the new leaves that develope after the problem is gone will be fine. If you have a lot of leaves that are scared I wouldn't cut them off. Even though it is unsightly the plant still needs the leaves. The plant will shed the leaves at some point anyway. If it is a small area you can cut it off to make the plant look better. If it is something like rot or fungus that is spreading and will kill the plant if you don't cut it off, then you would want to cut off the affected area.
If you have other questions about other topics post a new thread in the appropriate forum. More members will see it and you will get more responses. Good luck!

Welcome to Orchidboard!! I'd love to see some pics of your orchids.
As Wynn Dee suggests, creating your own thread about the issues with your plants is the best way to get help.

Hi dounoharm! That's awesome we r neighbors! I would love to come visit ur greenhouse! I got one of my orchids (oncidium- that I lost the tag on... wind blew it over & took the tag) at Whole Foods n Winston (LOVE Whole Foods!) I'm actually out of town for the summer, @ the beach & was able to bring down most of my orchids so I'm happy, but we will have to connect in the fall!
Im in the process of taking pics of my orchids, which has taken most the day b/c I had to charge the battery...ugh but I will b posting them soon!
