Default New here, hi everybody!

Hi Everyone,

I was goggling something about orchids yesterday (already forgot what...LOL) and happened to find this forum, so here I am! I started with 2 phals about 3.5 yrs ago. As of yesterday and my latest trip to Hausermann's, I am now up to 33 orchids total. The majority are phals, maybe 10 or so cattleyas and 2 dendrobiums. I live in a 1 bedroom condo with my 2 dogs, a bearded dragon, an iguana and an aquarium of african clawed frogs. The orchids are currently in my bedroom on a bookcase under grow lights. I'm thinking I need to stop the obsession (if that's even possible) and cap off my collection at either 40 or 50.

Anyway, I'm pretty much just here to learn. I realized I didn't know too much when one of my phals was recently dying off quickly. Discovered it was crown rot. Treated with hydrogen peroxide and cinnamon and so far, no more leaves are dropping off, so I'm hoping I caught it in time.

Look forward to learning.

Solana

Welcome to Orchid Board Solana! You will love it here! It certainly doesn't help to stop the orchid addition, that's for sure! I think I've added about 20 orchids to my collection since joining not so long ago. I love all the animals you share your home with. I have a love for bearded dragons even though I don't own one. But I used to work at a pet store so I fell in love with them. You will have to post some pics of your pets and 'chids! Also congrats on the crown rot save!

Hi caseydoll and Buds!,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'll definitely find some pics of the pets to post soon.

I've never dealt with crown rot before (or quite possibly, I've lost orchids before and didn't realize that was the cause). I'm not sure if this one is out of the woods just yet, although so far the leaves have stopped yellowing and dropping off. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one is ok. It's actually still blooming with 2 spikes.
