Hello new forum!
Default Hello new forum!

Well I suppose it isn't the forum that's new, but me! My name is Karen and I've looked around on the boards here once or twice, but figured it was time to buckle down and introduce myself!

I am a beginner when it comes to cultivating any type of flora... I have just one orchid as of now; a Phalaenopsis Baldan's Kaleidescope (golden treasure). Since I purchased her in mid-March she has given me many beautiful blooms.

There is one leaf, the one at the bottom (which I take to be the oldest, yes?) which has started to yellow. I only noticed it tonight, so I didn't get a good look at it since its dark now. I have also been led to believe that losing one leaf one in a while is normal. Hopefully everything is ok, but I fear I'll start having nightmares about root rot and funguses...

Anyway... No need to respond to the yellow leaf comment here, I will repost in a more appropriate category if needed. Just wanted to say hello to all my fellow orchid lovers!

HELLO!!! And see you on the boards

and welcome to OB. You will likely become addicted to orchids if you spend time here and go out and buy yourself some more!

Make sure you don't over water your Phal and let it get almost dry before you water again. If you suspect root rot, I would check the roots before it is done blooming. They can bloom for a long time (one of mine just finished 7 months of blooms) so a lot can happen if you wait till they are done.

Enjoy your blooms and why not post a picture of it!
