Hi! Male
Default Hi!

I recently got into orchid collecting. It started with a Mother's Day gift for my mom, and has grown from there.

As of 4/9/12
-4 NoID Phals (one makes the room smell like vanilla, the 'Mothers Day One' has a basal keiki, and the other two I find 'meh')
-1 NoID Cattleya (half off at the bigboxstore since the bloom died, it still had 2 good pseudobulbs in sheath, now in bud )
-1 NoID Cymbidium (A gift my mother received on her retirement, it's in bad shape right now )
-1 Phal. Shih Hua Gold (also a bigboxstore discount find)
-1 Cattleya intermedia var Orlata 'Rio' (In bloom right now and more beautiful by the day)
-1 Wilsonara Aloha Sparks "Edna's Flame" (In bloom right now, 2 tall spikes. It's also got what I think is 3 new pseudobulbs forming.)

I've been watering them about once a week or so, when the pots feels light, by submerging the root system in about a gallon of water. About once a month I feed with a pinch of 19-8-16 stirred in. All but 3 have been repotted into a fine orchid-mix.

I've got some problems with a couple, but I'll save those stories for other threads.

Hi I'm new too!! Well not to orchid growing but to the forum yes. That is a nice collection you got in such a short time! Here are some websites that might come in handy for you besides this one.
This one is an invualable reference Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia
This is the Orchid mall it has a lot of suppliers
The Orchid Mall - Everything in Orchids

You should consider visiting a local orchid nursery they have better orchids and more variety than chain stores. Also you can bring your problem plants in and they might be able to help you. Be warned though you will feel the urge to buy all the orchids you got money in your pocket for. I hardly have problems mail ordering orchids and Ebay has 10,000's of orchids for sale. Modern day conveniences Good luck
