I have never worked in fused glass. Do you have your own kiln? I am going to be doing a few church window re-leads this spring and hope to set enough aside to start on the greenhouse project. I do a lot of different woodworking as well, so I can do most of the construction myself. I do scrollsaw projects and I do small woodturning projects as well. We have a pretty complete wood shop so I only need some materials to get the greenhouse to be more than a dream.

I got myself a kiln a few years ago and its really fun to play with...you can be really creative with the kiln and its always a little exciting to see if what you put INTO the kiln is what you get when you take it OUT of the kiln... My husband does woodworking so most anything out of wood he does and anything with glass I do... so he will make the cabinet and I will do the windows... I would love a lathe but honestly I dont need anything else to do... I have been looking at greenhouses but at this point I think I would really like just one of the half ones that come off the side of the house maybe with a slider that goes into it... I think I would really like that but its going to have to wait... my 7 little orchids can't fill a greenhouse YET but I am sure we will get there....

I do pens and such with my lathe. They don't really take up that much time or space. I would love to have a greenhouse off the side of the house, but I am just not set up for that. I don't doubt that your 7 will turn into MANY more in no time flat. My husband does woodworking as well plus he does land management of a local property that some of our friends own. So, he finds me all sorts of cool burls to work with for wood turning and really neat pieces to turn into orchid mounts.

I am a windowsill grower. I started with two Phal foundlings in the trash long ago...now I have 196 orchids cleverly placed in nooks and crannies, tables, side-tables, top of shelves and on every window in my apartment

I would love to see photos of how you have them tucked away .... I am having a bit of trouble figuring out where to put them where they will get the required sun and humidity and not have my menagerie harass them...

I am doing alot of reading and am interested in folks in the northeast and how they do it considering the weather conditions here... thanks for the welcome I have alot to learn and i think this is a good place for me to do it.

I grow most of mine in the basement under lights and bring them upstairs and put them on a trestle table, my wife has so graciously allowed me, in front of a bay window when they are in bloom.

Welcome! Your 7 orchids will soon have many more friends. I started almost 3 years ago with 1 freebie from my office - no clue what to do with it or how to care for it - and I've just passed the 50 mark. The first few orchids didn't make it, but I read through a ton of previous posts and have learned so much.

I grow in my guest room on 6' shelving with lights. That room gets limited natural light so I had to go with florescents. Maybe some day I will have a greenhouse and then I won't have to "hold in the reins" quite as much when I go to orchid shows. :)
