protocol?
Hi I'm Keith, I have 16 orchids but am still very much a newbie looking to find some friends to help guide me into being an experienced successful orchidman. So if I'm not breaking protocol I would like to invite you all to drop me a line and leave advice or maybe even ask for it...not saying I have much but I've picked up a thing or two.
Thanks

Hi Keith, welcome
Is there anything in particular you want to learn more about?
Also, people love it when you share pictures of your plants, if you have a digital camera.

Hey Keith, each orchid is different and has a slightly different need when it comes to water, environment (humidity and temp), etc... If you could tell us the type of orchids you have that would help us to give you more basic guidelines. For example, a Phaleanopsis would have quite a different kind of need and culture than say a Phaius or Cattleya.

Excuse me, Paul, it's spelled Phalaenopsis.

Thanks for the greetings, I actually do feel welcome and with being off work since late august, feeling welcomed feels good. Discus I do like to take pictures and I will be uploading a plethera when I get them all repotted and I figure out where all the upload "portals" and things are around here.
To Sir Paul Mc. (I must ask if you play the bass guitar?) I have 5 mini phalaenopsis, one standard size phalaenopsis, three lovely cattleya that I bought rootless and dried out in a stretchy nylon bag at the hardware store( I DO LOVE A GOOD CHALLENGE) bought 4 still have three who seem to be settling in quite nicely. This past saturday I went to the nursery right up th road here and found a quite nice collection who had past bloom season unsold, so I chose a few and may return for a couple more. I purchased six and my cashiers ticket said reg. price $134.33 You Paid 34.00 you saved blah blah.
Here's a breakdown of what we aquired... my newbieism will shine here as I will tell you what the tag says and you say noid or not a noid, okay?
!.Burr. Dee Luce Everglades 2. &3>Sand. Black Star "pacific red star" {personal note these two large but very thin psuedobulbs} any thoughts? 4. & 5 are tagged Onc Heaven Scent "sweet baby' and finally 6.paphiopedilium Heron's faire {white heron giant Xfairrieanum fma album "lime white"). Hit me back with some knowledge please. I do have clear slotted pots and a 6 qt. bag of repotme catleya mix and a 6 qt. bag of oncidium and seedling mix for my thin rooted guys.

Welcome, Keith! I look forward to pics! You may want to update your location so we can better answer questions and relate to your growing conditions.

Merlyn, thank you for the correction. I sometimes get confused on the spelling and then sometimes my fingers won't type right, lol...
Chilipepper, no base guitar here, lol... I will have to let someone else address those specific orchids as I do not have much personal experience with them. I do grow a lot of Oncidiums, but they are a large group and come with many variances, so I don't know that particular one.
