Hello... lighting wise, I have grown under both fluorescent bulbs and HID metal halide bulbs. I found that fluorescent bulbs worked great in conjunction with growing in windows (and were fairly inexpensive to maintain)...though for things that like high light--hard cane dendrobiums & vandas HID was definately the way to go. You have to be careful of excess heat build up though, as well as accustom yourself to the high light levels. Hope this helps a bit...
