Introducing myself

Hi!

My name is Alan. I'm pretty new to orchids. I bought my first one about a year ago (and it's alive!). It was the second one I had ever seen in my life. The first was about six years ago in a house in Miami and I remember that I couldn't believe it was real (I was 10). It was a deep purple phal. So I bought my first one delightedly. When I brought it home and really observed the flowers I was amazed at their structure. I especially love the curly things at the end of the lip (though I don't know their names). It was a white phal. with yellow center, kind of like amabilis but a NOID.

I've bought six for myself since and two for my mom. All phals. I haven't found any other genus here in Mexico except for a paphiopedilum but it was way too expensive. Two died of root rot. But..one of mine is just beginning to drop its flowers, after two months. And they all look healthy so I must be doing things right .

I've found very helpful information here so I'm glad I finally joined.
