Hi Alan! Welcome! Are there not many greenhouses that sell orchids in Mexico? I would love to know since I am going to be visiting in September. I know I couldn't bring any home, but it is always fun to look! Unfortunately I do not understand Spanish, so the website that Shakkai posted, well lets just say I am clueless as to go about finding where it is...lol.

Thanks Becca, that's great. Well I live in the state of Morelos in central Mexico, just an hour's drive south of the City. It has better conditions for orchids (warm year-round and kind of humid) I have seen some orchids here in plant nurseries (viveros in spanish), mostly phals. And some in florists but ridiculously expensive (about $50-plus!). They have become a bit popular. So I guess you could find some you liked in various towns, depending on the area. Many orchids on sale here come from the state of Veracruz (which has a tropical climate and some rainforest), so you'd be lucky to go there. What places are you visiting? If you come to my state I'll help you with the directions to Shakkai's website greenhouse (which I will soon visit, hopefully).

I almost forgot to reply back. I am staying in the resort area of Puerto Vallarta at a Resort in Mexico. Probably won't be near any orchid places....and I couldn't take any home anyways....lol. I leave Wednesday...woohoo!

Welcome Alan! I too am new to Orchid Board and love getting all this wealth of information from expert growers, and not so expert growers. I am becoming addicted to OB as well as Orchids. Hummmm.....is that good???? Certainly fits my needs. I am from the State of Maine where the weather changes every other blink and I have a sunroom that I plan to heat this winter. I've only had orchids for just under a year, but I've accumulated quite a few different varieties since then and trying to figure out how to make them thrive. The OB forums really help me alot. So many people here talk about how they've managed to effectively grow their chids in difficult situations. Most ideas are rather ingenious.
I love this website. Welcome!
