Hello....
Cool Hello....

I have just registered and getting re-acquainted with the world of orchids. I used to live in the Florida Keys where my ex and I had many beautiful and different varieties of everything imaginable. Now, I live between Vero Beach and Melbourne, Florida. This area isn't as orchid friendly as the keys and I no longer have my gardening partner, so I am basically starting over.

Yesterday I went to the 51st Fall Orchid Fair presented by the Brevard County Orchid Society and brought home 5 unique minature orchids and now I must get some knowledge to make sure that they thrive. So I am, for the moment, your newest member.

Welcome to Orchid Board! I lived in the Keys for 15 years but I didn't grow orchids back then. Good luck with your new purchases.

Hello....
Default Thank you 4 the greetings....

The minis that I purchased were:

vietnamica christensonia

ludisia discolor alba

dendrobium faciferum

kingidium deliciosum

and an oncidium tsiku marguerite plant not a mini but the blooms certainly are!

The first 3 on the list do not have any blooms yet and hopefully I will get to see them.

Hap - Nice haul but I have to say that the only true mini in the group is the Kingidium deliciosum which has been renamed Phalaenopsis deliciosa. The Ludsia discolor, although it doesn't grow very tall will eventually spread into a very large plant. The Dendrobium faciferum is a wonderful medium sized plant with variable colored flowers ranging from a creamy yellow to a bright vibrant red. The Christensonia vietnamica is another mid sized plant with the most adorable green flowers with a white lip. The Oncidium Tsiku Marguerite is a great Oncidium Twinkle cross that I believe retains the sweet scent of the Twinkle parent. Most of their care is straight forward to their genus. If you have any specific culture questions, ask away.
