I used to be seriously into orchids but I have had too many other distractions for a few years and all I have left are a couple tough ugly orchids that managed to stay alive with no heat. I didn't see where to add personal info to my profile so I put the following in the space allotted for "owned orchids":

"I had more than 200K orchids once. I bred and registered the generas Burkhardtara and Fialaara. The lab I was using destroyed several good crosses, including one that I would have been proud to put my own name on.
I used to go to many shows, e.g. two shows a year in Santa Barbara and I attended all the WOCs from 09 to 17 (except for 16 in Vancouver). I missed WOC 18 & 19, maybe I'll make it to WOC 20 in Singapore."

@Bob: I started the orchid business to bring in a little money to maybe make up for lost income if my wife retired. For about 7 years I just made crosses and deflasked and raised baby orchids . When I finally got around to putting an ad in the AOS Bulletin I discovered that it was not much fun actually filling orders; dealing with Dept. Agriculture; packing and shipping. Cheap plants were starting to come in from Columbia, etc. too. I either had to expand and hire several people or forget about it.
