Default *waves* hello, nice to meet ya :)

I am a long time house plant addict, recently turned hardcore with the addition of orchids from clearance rack at my local home improvement store.

I adopted eight. Yes, eight. They were a dollar and all lonely looking with their figurative sad puppy eyes, and I had to bring them home.

Then... I realized I have no clue what I'm doing!

Then... found this amazing forum, and here I am.

So, with any luck, the eight phalaenopsis orchids will be happy and healthy for a long time to come.

The bunch of them are all individually planted with decorative moss inside 4x4x4 inch square glass jars. No visible mold, or blackened roots. Also, no puddles of water at the bottom. The spikes on seven of them are green, but the flowers have grown and gone. One of them had a dry brown spike, so that one got a haircut right away. For now, I feel they are best being in their cozy little bowls until I feel more comfortable with what I am doing.

Thank you all in advance for helping with any questions, loitering, or freak out moments I may have!

Welcome and Hello !
Sit back and relax, read postings from our other members and learn from their wealth of knowledge coming from years of experience in growing orchids.
The glass jars worry me. Do they have holes? How do you water them?
Theres a phalaenopsis culture that will be of help to you.

The jars are completely ridiculous. 4x4x4 glass candle holders basically. No drainage whatsoever. The phals spent a while laying sideways on the edge of our kitchen sink draining. The moss is packed pretty tightly, which I know I need to remedy soon.

I read through 'the phal abuse stops here' file and was pleasantly surprised at how helpful it was.
