Smile Paphiopedilum with root rot

Hello. I'm new to the world of growing orchids. I value what people have to say here, because I believe people who have joined this site are serious growers and have plenty of knowledge and experience with their orchids. I own a Miltassia brassia, 2 Phals, and 2 Paphs - one of which I think I watered too much, and I took off all the leaves ( they looked bad). I wonder if that was a mistake. Then I noticed that no wasn't any more growth. I dumped all the bark and noticed that my roots (outer covering) were dry and soft, and brown, and my inner roots were thread-like (dry thin sticks) and brown. Is it beyond hope? I appreciate any advice, even if someone tells me to discard the plant roots. Thank you for helping me.

Welcome to Orchid Board

I'm afraid your phal sounds like it might be too late for it. You should not be able to see the inner thread-like string of the roots, if the outer coating is hollow so that you can pull it away from the center thread easily then those roots are dead. A phal without leaves is also in serious trouble.

Sometimes if the roots are healthy a new plant (basel keiki) can grow from them to replace the dead plant, but if the roots are also dead (as it sounds) then there is not really any the hope

Take a look at this link. There is a lot of advise on growing phals here. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ends-here.html

Millita - Welcome to the Orchid Board, I wished you had joined before your plant got to the state that it is in now.

It would help to see a picture of the plant you are talking about so that we can see what is left of it, a close up of the plant and the roots or lack there of can tell us alot.
