NEW TO FORUM/Microfungus
Default NEW TO FORUM/Microfungus

HELLO HELLO from North Carolina Outer Banks. I do phals at least for now. Having a serious problem that looks like a micro fungus and may have to ditch them all.
The article on this was from 2004 so I don't know if anything new has come up since then. Anyone know anything on this?

Thanks

2Purple

Welcome to the orchid Board. Most people here use Physan as a fungicide. Have you looked into this? Or fungicides in general?

Welcome! I haven't heard of microfungus, but try some fugicide.
I dd overhear two society members talking about ditching some phals because of a disease. However it was some sort of leaf spotting

Welcome to the OB!!!!
If you can post pics of what the problem is, many of the experts here can identify it right off the bat.
Again welcome!

This is what it looks like

This post is from 04, but this is exactly what has happened to me. It started with coconut bark and by the time I figured out what the problem was I had a serious problem on my hands.

Thanks 2Purple

Hello!
The link does work if you copy and past the link starting with http. That sounds like a 'poopy' situation
It does sound pretty similar to the 'microfungus' in the article. It also makes sense that it would be some type of fungus since it is obviously traveling through the air, and fungi form spores which can be airborne.

Now... here is another thought... I'm a total newbie, so I don't know if this is totally stupid... but everyone here seems friendly and forgiving if I make an idiot of myself... so here goes! Is it possible that it is some sort of chemical causing the damage? For example in the watering? What makes me wonder that is that the leaves change colour before the pitting begins, so it almost seems as though it's being damaged from the inside-out. I tried quickly googling chemical damage with orchids, but didn't find anything of interest, so I'm not sure of what would happen if it was being damaged by some sort of chemical... Anyway, again, I apologise if I sound totally stupid, but I am a newbie!

Good luck, and I hope you don't have to throw them all out
