Welcome & Hello ! Sit back and relax, I see you have read some posts of other members and learned from their wealth of experience from years of growing orchids...
WOW! I admire your restraint...you have 7 yrs experience with orchids yet you only have 17 plants...I have 7 yrs experience too but in my apartment in Manhattan I have 85 and some orchids all surviving in a baywindow, a kitchen window and a bathroom window...and I have found out how to mount orchids and I have 10 or more spaces to hang them... I am prowling for new chids to buy ...

HAHA, it's not really restraint...it's just lack of space and time. I have only one good window that gets any decent amount of sun. But it is addictive, that's for sure. I don't consider myself that experienced; it's probably best that I learn how to flower the plants I have right now before buying a whole bunch more.

First off, It is great to see another Canadian member here on the Board. There is also several other Canadians on here too! Hmmm . . . I guess I would say I have a lack of restraint, as I have gone from two to almost fifty in a little over a year! One thing that would help with the lighting issue is growing under lights, which is what I do and my 'chids are loving it!

eurytides - For this group lack of space or knowledge is no excuse for not buying more plants - we absolutely are a group of enablers, watch out or you will have orchids living in space that you once thought of as yours, they will take over, with our help of course.
Welcome to the friendliest orchid forum around.

Thx guys. Nice to meet another Canadian - not too many on this forum it seems.
As for my orchids, part of the reason it hasn't expanded is also lack of time on my part, and there also don't seem to be too many vendors in Canada who have a great selection of species. I mainly get mine from Paramount Orchids in Alberta, whom, sadly I hear is downsizing as Bryon is looking to retire.

Do you know Cloud's Orchids? They have quite a selection of species.

Hey Lady vamp, yeah I know about them, but they don't have many phals. It's mostly other species they carry. Where do you get your Phal species from? I've checked out the vendors listed on the Canadian Orchid Congress website (every single one), but I'm not sure how complete that listing is.

I don't buy much Phal anymore because they generally take up to much of my place, but I know " Orchidées de YaLi" and Orchids in our tropics have some phal species. Orchids in our tropics also represent Carter and Holmes in Canada, so you can check them too
As for list of vendors, there's the Orchid House, Orchidwire and the Orchid Mall that also list vendors. Some vendors are only on one of those lists, so if you fell you don't know enough canadian vendors, check them out

Thx for the advice, I'll check them out. I've bought stuff from Orchids in our tropics before actually.
