Welcome and hello billie...were both junior members but I have grown orchids for the past 8 yrs...dont worry about ants, it can be daunting to see them among your plants but they eat the larvae of mites and other dead bugs and bring them to their colony...I would worry if the queen is inside one of your pots and creates a huge colony of swarming ants.

glad you found us
the best place to post your question would be the "Pests and Diseases" forum
I don't think ants themselves are harmful to orchids, tho if I see ants, I definitely keep watch for other critters, especially aphids if there are buds or blooms. Tho if the plant is indoors I would want to get rid of them - orange guard, or orange cleaner, or neem oil should do the trick.
Are the ants in the media? or just on the plant?

Any time I see anything, I dunk the orchid, pot and all into another bucket full of water. Usually the bugs surface.
