Hello everyone. I am a new member at the Orchid Board. I got my first Orchid about 18 months ago, didn't know what to do so I asked the guy working with plants at Home Depot. He told me to soak my Phal for an hour or two in water once a week.....well of course it died. I then bought another one (just add ice), adding ice didn't sound right to me so I did some research on line and had good luck with this phal, watering it once a week in Winter and 2 X a week in Summer (very dry in colorado). I joined the Denver Orchid Society where people were VERY helpful and I bought several orchids from them at meetings and events. I have 12 and all are thriving like crazy. Most of mine like some sun and I have a loft condo with large skylights and this is why I believe they do so well. I spray my orchids with mist in the morning and more if its really hot out. I have them on humidity trays also. So far I have Brassia, Oncidium, Dendrobium, Phal, Blc, Dpts, Cymbidium and Vanda orchids. I am currently designing a 120 gallon turtle aquarium which I would like to incorporate mini orchids that like humidity. Its so dry here that this would be the only way I could get some higher humidity orchids. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
