Default New lurker emerges

Hello Folks,

I'm new here but been lurking for a while (unregistered). I like the atmopshere of this place compared to the other Orchid forums where people just get together to fight and flame eachother about their plants/knowledge thereof!

I'm no stranger to exotic plants though, my specialty for almost the past decade has been Nepenthes, the giant carnivorous pitcher plants of the asian tropics. But after my dad needed several heart surgeries last fall I gave away/sold my huge (imported) collection and got rid of my huge converted bathtub/shower stall terrariums (one highland/cold one lowland/hot) so I could spend my time with him at the hopsital. Now that everything is groovy again I'm putting together one cubic meter terrarium for orchids, exotics and maybe one (or two) smaller Nepenthes species .

I like that there are a number of pages here showing peoples setups in the natural style! I used to just have smaller pots sitting ontop of big pots. This time I want something stunning overall! The pages here of you folks' setups gives me lots of dream about!

Anyway, just sayin Howdee!

Hi and welcome to Orchidboard

We've got a great group of people here who share your aversion to tension in the forums. We all love growing orchids...and we all have our own way of doing things...which is the way it should be I'm glad to have you here with us

Hope your Dad is doing well now

We'd love to see some pics of what you're growing...it's another one of our addictions

If you need help with anything, let us know

I haven't got anything growing at the moment since I had given/sold it all last fall. But it didn't take long for my addiction to start calling me back. It started a few weeks ago that I thought I would "just get a small fishtank for my cats to watch the fish and I'll plant it up real nice with aquatics". Now a few weeks later I'm planning on cnstructing a big vivarium for orchids and stuff. Just my minds way of subverting me back into plants again!

A big welcome. Glad to have another tank person to discuss issues with. We have several here and a great variation in how they are set up and the conditions each person is striving for. Members here come from all over the world and many walks of life, so you should fit in here really well. Again, welcome. And when you get your first tank setup let us see it?

Aboard Swords...its great that you shed those "foster grants" and became an OB member. Our community is fun and a wealth of information to share.

Welcome, welcome! So glad you joined us.

We'd love to see photos of how you set up your tank! Carnivorous plants can be an addiction as well.... so showing us your babies might just tempt a few people here!
