Yes, exactly! (and oops, I meant hanging like in a basket, though that's not quite an option for me either) My mother's actually giving me the eye for all the rescues I've made, so I'm trying to keep them all to a small space. In the past few years, the weather's gotten so extreme and erratic that I don't trust putting my orchids outside, either. No reliabel shade at the moment.
Though speaking of space, for future reference, do you know of any miniature vanda orchid types? Though since I really like the presentation and convenience of vase culture, I'm considering getting phrags or paphs in the future.

Oh my goodness, that's just lovely! I adore the color of those blooms, I'm already leaning towards the vandas with rich colors just like that one. :O
I was under the impression that they needed vases of a certain shape (like wine carafes), but yours looks so happy as is. I'm certainly inspired and can't wait to get my baby!

Don't you have your seedling yet than? Where did you get it. I got all my seedlings from Ebay.
Exacpt for the ones I just deflasked. They come from Thailand as flasks. The big ones I did get from a garden center.

I ordered my seedling from ebay as well, from a French vendor I purchased a tolumnia seedling. The vanda will be here in about two weeks; I hope it will be all right, I don't know if it's as tolerant as the tolumnia was being in transit for so long.
Most of the nurseries in my area don't carry orchids, though I have yet to check a few. The stores generally have phals and some bagged cattleyas, though I've seen dendrobiums lately, too.

I did get my seedling from him as well. A friends of mine did get one of him too. It did take 13 days to get to her, and it still was fine. So don't worry to much. Here in Holland we don't have much nurseries as well. I like to have them with an id. So most of mine come from Ebay.

How cool! I really do like this vendor and I'll probably order more vandas and tolumnias from him in the future. I'm glad to hear they arrive in good condition.
I also think I will try and refrain from any more rescues and buy more from nurseries. I figure I can't learn much if I'm buying orchids that are already in poor condition. (But I probably won't be able to resist unique or very healthy NOIDs!)

I know what you mean. When you buy rescues it will take you a long time to get them healthy again.
Your goal is of course to get spikes, and learn something. That's why I tried deflasking now.
It's so cute to see those tiny babies grow. I also have one that is having spikes now. It's just so rewarding.

AMAZING. Good job, what healthy little babies! I've seen offers for flasks but I haven't read enough about the whole process. Maybe I should get started, could make for a nice project over the winter!

It's not really that difficult. I did get the flasks from Thailand. When they were big enough to get deflasked I did break the flasks, and cleaned them.
Now I soak them every day, and give fertilizer twice a week. Also I keep them in the shade as long as they don't have enough new roots. They may not stay in the sun yet.
