Here to learn!
Hello everyone, just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Lisa and I'm a student of Horticulture at MSU. I work for the Floriculture department here as a reseach assistant, and I love being surrounded by orchids all day. I hope to eventually get into orchid growing as a profession. I would love to know any and everything each of you knows about the cultivation of beautiful orchids, and maybe I know a few things that I can share with you as well. I currently have 14 Phalaenopsis, one Odontioda, and what I BELIEVE is a mini Ascocenda. Looking forward to talking with you!

Hello Lisa, welcome to the OB! If you want info, you've come to the right place. I, too, would like to one day supplement my retirement with these little beauties. Although I've grown many things, I've only been collecting orchids for under a year, but already I've learned so much. I've got about 20 pregnant orchids, right now, so I'll be trying my hand at flasking by the end of the year. Anyway, welcome to the Board!

Thats an idea I haven't considered yet! I was thinking of purchasing a flask to attempt opening it, but it never crossed my mind to flask myself. Great idea. Right now, I'm just trying to get as much experience with orchids as possible. My current hobby is rescuing "trashies" from work. Basically, orchids with no root system, or horrible infestations of scale...its frustrating, but excellent from a student's point of view! lol!

Here's a little recipe for those roots, given to me by a professional grower. It has worked beautifully for all of my babies. Read my reply to this thread: http://www.orchidboard.com/community....html#post4803
