Hi from Sacramento Male
Default Hi from Sacramento

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum and new to California. I moved here from Cerro Azul, Panama. I sure do miss growing my orchids outside! I am trying to adjust to the new growing habits here in the valley. Cymbidiums grow great. Trying to read up on what else will grow here.
Thanks
Danny

Hi Danny
to OB and to California!

yeah- cyms are pretty happy campers here - just need to stay on the watering during our dry summers

I live in San Jose, and have some orchids that live outside year round, watching for winter overnight lows getting below mid 30s (then it's the garage for them) - probably I am really pushing the low temps for them tho. I also make sure they are out of the rain in winter, except for the cyms who are fine getting drenched in cold rain on cold nights. And I haven't yet need to worry about temps being too low for the cyms, tho I know it can happen rarely

I do believe Sacto can be colder at night in winter than it gets closer to the coast, tho I could be mistaken - but even if that is so - I'm sure many orchids can be grown outdoors at least a good part of the year

glad you found us!

[B]Thanks so much Miz Rabbit for the kind reply. Yes , I must say I am thankful for the cymbidiums that I have and can grow here. Living in Panama was such a "piece of cake" you just hung them out in the trees and they took care of themselves. Here it is a different story as you well know.
I must admit that it is wonderful living back in the states! I love the super-markets!
Anyway thanks again.
Danny

Glad you found us, Danny.
Growing orchids here in FL can be a lot of fun, but I still need to bring them in for about 5-6 weeks in winter when we can get lows in the mid to low 30's. I think you'll really enjoy the OB. Not having a local club around where I live I think its great.
Enjoy,
Tony

Hi from Sacramento Male
Default Thank you!

I just wanted to say thank you all so much for making me feel so welcomed to the "ORCHID BOARD" I already love it so much.
Now if I can only find orchids that will grow in California (Sacramento area). I'll just have to keep trying and hope I get no jail time for cruelty to orchids.
Thanks all of you
Danny
