Hello from Illinois
Hello All,
I have a few posts, but wanted to introduce myself.
I became addicted to Orchids, since January when I received one as a gift. It is a little Phalaenopsis which is still blooming, although it has sprouted a new leaf, so I think the blooms will be winding down.
Of course, it seemed that the one plant was lonely so I've added some more. Currently around 50.
Since space was a problem, I had to build a grow room in the basement. Then I bought A HPS light for the plant that want more light and a fluorescent light set up for the low light plants.
Being in Northern Illinois, I am within driving distance of several Orchid growers, this is good as it is nice to go and walk around and see what all is available. My plan is to try a variety of plants, to see how they do with the conditions I can provide. I have tried to pick up plants that are supposed to be easy to grow and bloom.
I have had only one plant die so far, but a couple of others are not looking too good. Most of the others seem to be growing and doing ok. Hopefully I can say the same in a year.
I have lurked for a while to glean information and hope to continue to learn.
Happy 4th of July to those in the USA, and best wishes to everyone.
Bob
