Default Hello

Hi Everyone
I want to introduce myself to this forum. I have been a member of another forum for the past few years. Today I haven't been able to log in there, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to join another good orchid forum.

I think I will enjoy being a member here, especially since I just stumbled on a huge Neofinetia falcata thread! I have really started getting into these little guys the past few years, and have a nice collection of them now. I also grow Phals, Cattleyas, and a few Cymbidiums, as well as a smattering of other genera.

I live in southern CA and try to grow most of the year outside. but I do bring my Phals inside during the winter at nights. I'm looking forward to learning more from all the members here.

Alden

Hi Norris, welcome to the Orchid Board! This is Carlos...we visited SVO together a while back. You should come over for a tour some time!

Not sure if you've seen it already...but there's a group on flickr for Orchid Growers in Southern California. If you get a chance you should look through the discussion section...there might be a few topics of interest.

Thanks everyone!

Carlos, its great to see you on here! I will check out the Flicker group you mentioned.

I remember the SVO tour, that was really neat experience. The plants I got there are doing well, and I'm hoping to get blooms on the Catasetinae I purchased there.

I would like to see your collection again, and you might like to see my setup. You inspired me to try growing some things outside year around, and I did that last winter with good results.

Glad to hear that you're having some success growing orchids outside! Feel free to contact me if you'd like to know whether an orchid might be suitable for outdoors...I'm up to around 500 species outside year around and know quite a few SoCal people who grow their orchids outside.

The next step is to try a few orchids on trees.
