Hello from California
Hi Everyone,
I been a member few months, but just found this area of the board. I've been growing plants on and off since I was 5 years old which was very long ago. I managed to get my 3 phals to re-spike (yeah!!!) and so begins the addiction.
I've always loved Cattleyas and now invested in those too. People grow Cymbidiums and Laelias outdoors where I live, but right now the lot next door has a spider mite "hotel" and black spot trees. I've got my babies inside and hope I have enough humidity for the catts to re-bloom.

Thanks for the welcome Jennyfleur. I'm originally from Chicago and still amazed orchids grow outside here too. Love your Sophie Tucker quote!

Hi Rosalie! I'm also in Nor-Cal - San Jose, and grow quite a few orchids outdoors - tho I watch the weather forecast for overnight lows in winter, and do try to keep them out of rain in the winter - except for the cyms - nothing much bothers them
glad you found us!

Hi White Rabbit, Glad I found you all too! What do you grow? What bothers the Cyms? We definitely had some nippy nights this past winter:-)
I sent my check off the the Peninsula Orchid Society this month and have my first meeting coming up. If I can't get my catts to bloom, I figure this is a good place to find them new homes. Ok, I've had them less than 6 months and three less than 3 weeks, so this kind of negative thinking is premature.

there doesn't seem to be a whole lot that bothers cyms - they don't like to be sitting in water for too long - mine take the cold, the cold rain (tho the one I had blooming, and was sitting out in the elements, the blooms didn't last nearly as long as they are on the ones that have been sheltered) sometimes I find snails in mine, tho they don't usually seem to have done much, if any, damage - maybe I just catch them before they have had the opportunity - idk
of course pests can bother them - tho I haven't really had that problem other than the snails
between help from OB and your OS, I'm sure any problems can be overcome

Thanks for telling me more about your cyms. Glad to hear how well they're doing/behaving!
