New to Orchids
Hello Everyone
I am very new to this sport of figuring out how these flowers grow. This is something that has just come up lately in a previous thread. All the stores that just toss the unsold orchids after they have finished blooming. Travesty if you ask me but, this is how I got the virus. I thank everyone in advance who will guide me through my journey. I live in Okinawa is there anyone else out there?

Think like a jungle and you will grow orchids without a problem.

Welcome aboard. Ask away and I am sure someone here will be able to assist you. Everyone here is quite kind and helps wherever they can! Lord knows I've saved several of my orchids from their near-death experiences based on the thoughts and advice of people here.

With any orchid, it is always good to cut off the dead roots with sterilized equipment, then lightly dust the cut areas with cinnamon which helps prevent opportunistic diseases and other issues.
On another note, it's generally best to post your question in an appropriately titled thread. For example, you might have posted this in the beginner thread with a title such as "Cut ASCDA Suksamran Sunlight roots?" This will optimize the answers by people who know the answers being able to easily see what your question is.

Welcome! I just bought a Suksamran gold not long ago! I agree that if the roots are really dead, you should cut them off. Some people grow vandas bare root in a slatted basket, which works well if you have good humidity and are prepared to water often. I like to put a little loose sphagnum and large lumps of charcoal in the basket so That I only need to water once a week in winter, and every 3rd day in summer, and I mist any roots that hang out of the pot.
