Default Hello from Sunny Florida

Hello from sunny Florida!

My name is Abby -- I've lurked these boards for a long time and decided to finally take the plunge and join.

I'm an amateur, small-scale orchid grower: the little apartment I share with my husband doesn't offer a ton of room for plants! I currently have two phals, two oncidiums (a "jairek rainbow" and a "sharry baby"), a dendrobium nobile, and I've recently acquired a peristeria elata from a friend of mine.

I hope my collection can grow as I collect more and more knowledge from the people in these forums

See you around!

Default Whoops

Whoops, wasn't paying attention and listed my "Jairak Rainbow" as an oncidium. It's not, it a tolumnia. Better go get that second cup of coffee after all...

Welcome to Orchid Board. It's a great place see what other orchid growers are saying and to get answers to some of your orchid related questions. You're welcome to join a social group that I'm in called Florida Orchid Lovers. Good luck with your orchids.

Hi Abby and welcome to OB. I also have Sharry Baby and refer to it as my "Diet Chocolate" Whenever it's in bloom all I have to do is go smell instead of finding the real stuff. Cheaper too!

Welcome to Orchid Board

You have some great orchids. I love Sharry Baby as well, especially that fragrance!

Welcome to the OB!

BTW, I have a Sharry Baby as well! I bought it for the fragrance but it was a baby so hopefully it should bloom this year for me!

You will find everyone here extremely helpful. And remember, the only dumb question here is the one that was not asked. We are all here to help each other learn and grow.

I'm glad so many people here have Sharry Babies! Mine was given to me by my mother, who bought it about a year ago and forgot it. It wasn't doing very well when I got it -- it hadn't been watered enough and the pseudobulbs were all shriveled.

It's been on a regular watering schedule for the last several weeks but the p. bulbs are still pretty shriveled... I may be asking for advice about how to perk it up if it doesn't get better soon!
