Hello Group! My name is Denise and have been lurking on the forum for about a year. My experience with orchids thus far has been limited to rescuing orchids off clearance tables from Lowes and grocery stores.

At the time I thought it was an inexpensive way to pick up healthy orchids so I didn't have to pay full price. Who wants to spend $19.99 when you can get them for half or less? Well, I was wrong because I have lost quite a few to root rot because the retailers don't care for them properly. lol. On the other hand, this has turned out to be quite a learning experience. I currently have 18 phal rescues sitting on my dining room table fighting for their lives. I figure if I can get these to live for a year and respike, then I'm ready for the full priced ones.

Ok, now you all know I'm cheap and always am on the look for bargins.

Welcome to Orchid Board! Good luck with your rescue orchids. People on this forum have lots of good information. They also appreciate your efforts and applaud your successes. I hope you enjoy growing orchids as much as I have. Good luck.

Thank you. It's hard to not pick another one up whenever you go shopping. So yeah, I'm addicted. I wish somebody would create a variety that would grow faster and bloom more often.

LOL... I too have bought the discounted orchids! I was very fortunate to have all but one survive.

Best of luck! If you should ever have any questions or need assistance, just ask. Everyone here is very sincere about helping each other find the solutions to their unique problems.

Again, thank you. I am not shy in asking questions. I am like a sponge -- always absorbing information to improve whatever I'm into.

Good for you on rescuing the ones nobody wanted. I do the same. I think I have about 25 or 30 phals at this point. We are all addicted and there is no known cure. If you find one, don't tell us about it. Welcome!!

haha. Well, today I am going to Lowes to see if there is any correlation to the color of the stems to the color of the blossoms. Will I be able to resist the temptation of bringing another one home? Only if the price is right.

Too late, mother nature beat humans to the punch.

Maybe not Phals, but other orchids are definitely like what you're wishing for.

Welcome to the OB.

Welcome to Orchid Board Denise!

I too used to buy a lot of discount orchids... just couldn't resit them when I went shopping. I'm a bit more selective these days, but only the other day picked up another from my supermarket. Actually a couple of my best growing phals are a couple of £0.50 ones I picked up on discount.
