Hi folks,

Yet another Aussie new member rolling in.
I'm just rebuilding my orchid collection - starting from scratch actually...(a sorry tale of a vindictive ex and a bottle of glyphosate). Have just bought a new house, built a shadehouse and converted a verandah into a curious glasshouse/shadehouse arrangement.
I had a fair pile of Aussie natives - mostly dendrobiums and dockrillias - epiphytes and lithophytes - about 200 all up.
I'm going to be a bit adventurous this time around and try some of our local ground orchids... curious little deciduous things that lose their leaves in summer... many need a decent bushfire to stimulate flowering. Have a look at Diuris, Thelymitras and Caladenias if you're curious. Very strange bits of gear. I'll post some pics when they're up.
Also looking at perfumed exotics and some of these outstanding hybrids of recent years so there will be a lot on this board to interest me. There's a lot of wisdom and experience tucked away in here. Looking forward to it.

Peter (aka Banksiaman)

Ah no alas ... I had 200... all reduced to rather toxic compost... But so far I've put together about 30 sarcochilus and a handful of dendrobiums so far... but now I have all this space to fill... good fun really.

Thanks for all the warm greetings folks.... I've just moved down to Dungog after a stint in Kyogle... drawn to places with Aboriginal names I guess

Welcome Pete!! Sounds like you made the right decision if your ex would take out emotions on helpless little plants. We promise not to hurt a one of them. Enjoy your new collection!!

Hi and welcome! I have noticed that there are lots of orchids on Ebay that are in Australia. I've often wished that shipping them here wasn't so complicated and expensive.
