Thanks Camille; I'm lucky enough to have (almost entirely on a whim) swung through the Exotic Plant Company's greenhouse at the end of last year, and we went a bit nuts (*cough* twice. Once when we were on our way home again and the whim took us back, and we just *had* to get more plants!)... Car was full of orchids and 42 bottles wine!

Then the Internet's siren song called, and I spent a while trawling around looking for places in South Africa that sold orchids - so far have ordered from Stephward Estate, Plantae and Van Rooyen, hence the rapid expansion in collection from two phal NOIDs, two cymbidiums (from Dan's nursery by way of random florists and nurseries) and a Dendrobium kingianum before going away in December, to what I have now. I also picked up some plants at a EPOS meeting last month. I imagine such things will happen to me again...!

wrt furniture, we ended up re-purposing a metal rack we had in the kitchen for orchids. I nearly bought more rack space the week before last before it was pointed out to me in the hardware shop that there was absolutely no more space!

Glad the blog kept you entertained I have a tendency to obsess over things I find interesting, whilst being very ADD over everything else! The focus of my obsessions changes from time to time, but I can't imagine orchidomania going away... It's probably one of those incurable, untreatable chronic diseases. The only thing that helps with the pain is adding more plants.

Well luckily (if you want to call it that) is that once the newness of orchids wears off, orchid shopping gets a more reasonable (ie, you don't want to buy everything in sight. You only want to buy almost everything! )
But space will always be a recurring problem. There's never enough space for them, but there's always room for one more!

The story of your poor red Catt was very distressing. Breaking one bud is bad enough, but an entire cluster?? Stay far away from the spikes next time!

I know :/ it was rather distressing. But a new cluster of 4 popped out the back of the plant where I didn't see it a few days ago. Shame, because if I hadn't have snapped that one off, there would be 8 ossum blooms :/

Unfortunately, the new ones are in a rather silly position, badly obscured by leaves. Tempted as I am to try staking... Lesson learnt, I think!
